Am Pressekommuniqué soen di 3: “If we are to end “social dumping”, we must change the law, so that European workers do not have to compete within factories and companies with those forced to work for lower wages and in poorer conditions. Instead of blaming “foreign workers”, we should be challenging the rights of multinationals to undercut local pay rates and exploit workers. It’s vital that we resist the attempts of those on the far right who are using these disputes to stir up racism and xenophobia“.
Finnesch Fernsehreporteren waren extra matgereest fir doriwwer ze berichten. Wéi se bis hei waren hu se och e Reportage iwwer mech gemaach. Hei de komplette Kommunique, an d’Englescht iwwersat:
“We must act pro Social Europe and contra social dumping”
- Threat to jobs and working conditions needs to be at the top of the European agenda. Social justice must be put above corporate profit, says Finnish social democractic MEP-candidate Petra Paasilinna together with PES Foreign Ministers Frank-Walter Steinmeier (D) and Jean Asselborn (LUX) in Luxemburg, 27 April.
- If we are to end “social dumping”, we must change the law, so that European workers do not have to compete within factories and companies with those forced to work for lower wages and in poorer conditions. Instead of blaming “foreign workers”, we should be challenging the rights of multinationals to undercut local pay rates and exploit workers. It’s vital that we resist the attempts of those on the far right who are using these disputes to stir up racism and xenophobia, say Paasilinna, Steinmeier and Asselborn.
Paasilinna, Steinmeier and Asselborn call for an in-depth-discussion on social dumping.
- We urge all MEP-candidates to commit themselves to Social Europe. Incoming European commission needs to agree to revise the posted workers directive, so that its original intention – to provide equal treatment for all workers – is upheld, say Paasilinna, Steinmeier and Asselborn.
Paasilinna’s petition to other MEP-candidates
MEP-candidate Petra Paasilinna calls upon all MEP-candidates to link this demand on Social Europe to approval of the new Commission.
- I suggest that MEPs should veto this year’s incoming European commission, unless it agrees to revise the posted workers directive. I urge all MEP-candidates to join me on this commitment. For Finnish MEP-candidates, this petition is open for signatures on my website www.petrapaasilinna.fi, says Paasilinna.
Relating to Finnish party leader Jutta Urpilainen’s vision for red-green alliance in EU-elections, Petra Paasilinna have hopes on red-green support for her petition.
- Already a few European MEPs, representing Socialists and Greens, have indicated their readiness for veto, unless the Commission agrees to revise the posted workers directive, says Paasilinna.
